Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell defeated Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker 1-up to win Eurpoe’s first point in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

The duo of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell won the 18th hole to as they defeated Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker 1-up during Friday morning’s foursome session in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Both teams started evenly, alternating wins to stay all square through eight holes, but then the Europeans went on a roll. McIlroy and Westwood won holes 9-11 to go 3-up with seven holes to go and looked primed to take the full point.

Furyk and Snedeker however staged a furious comeback, winning the 13th, 15th and 16th holes to bring the match back even with just two holes remaining.

After halving the par-3 17th, the Americans couldn’t finish the comeback. Snedeker mishit his drive off the tee, and Furyk was unable to save the hole, missing a 20-foot put for par.

McDowell on the other hand was able to avert disaster and save par to take the full point. McDowell hit his approach shot in the greenside bunker, but McIlroy was able to punch out easily and left McDowell a reasonable putt for the win.
