Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson could not have played any better in their afternoon four-ball match, and the scoreboard showed it. They pummeled Paul Lawrie and Peter Hanson, 5&4, to get the USA the first point of Friday afternoon and a 3-2 lead on the Europeans at the 2012 Ryder Cup.

By the time that the teams got to the turn, Watson and Simpson were already 6-up. They won the first two holes and never looked back, also winning the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth holes to take complete command of the match.
Watson started the afternoon by asking the crowd to cheer on the first tee and to keep the cheering going as he teed up. That got the crowd into the match and got the USA team going. Watson was predictably huge off the tee and was marvelous around the greens, while Simpson was steady from the first tee to the final green.
The hot start by Watson and Simpson helped spark a big afternoon for the Americans. All four USA teams took leads in the afternoon as they try to become the first team to sweep an afternoon since 1989.
