The American team backed up their rousing three-point Friday afternoon with another three-point Saturday Foursomes session, pushing their lead to a commanding 8-4. The session was highlighted by another dominating performance from the duo of Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson. Those two matched a Ryder Cup record for margin of victory, overwhelming Luke Donald and Lee Westwood for a 7&6 win.

The U.S. took three of four points again during Saturday morning’s foursomes, with Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson leading the way.

The cool and steady pairing of Zach Johnson and Jason Dufner took care of business against Sergio Garcia and Nicolas Colsaerts for America’s second point. Dufner and Johnson had the two most consistent summers on the PGA Tour, constantly in contention and at the top of leaderboards. They were expecting to be paired together, and they’re 2-0 through the first two days. Both putted tremendously to lead for nearly the entire match – an impressive feat against the veteran Garcia and the red-hot Colsaerts, who converted eight birdies and an eagle on Friday.
The Europeans were favorites in the anchor match of the morning Foursomes, but it was Jim Furyk and rookie Brandt Snedeker who came through with the wire-to-wire win over Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell. Furyk and Snedeker were steady from tee-to-green, jumping 1-up on the first hole and never relinquishing the lead, down to the final putt on the 18th green.
Ian Poulter and Justin Rose were the only European team to pick up a point, defeating Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson 1-up on the the last hole. Poulter has been nearly unbeatable in Ryder Cup play, and he’s especially comfortable with his good friend Rose. Simpson had an off-morning with his putter, and the Euros took advantage on the back side to jump ahead.
But it was only a small blemish on another successful session for Davis Love III and the American Ryder Cup team. With a four-point cushion, a split in the afternoon would be more than enough to have them in firm control heading into Sunday singles.
