The European duo of Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald avoided a furious comeback by Americans Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker, winning 1-up at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill Saturday.
Ryder Cup 2012 live results: Garcia/Donald defeats Woods/Stricker 1-up, USA leads 10-5
Americans Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker made a rally against the European tandem of Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald in the Ryder Cup Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to win.

Garcia and Donald were up by as many as four strokes with back-to-back birdies from Donald on holes No. 8 and 9. Then Team USA went on a bit of a roll. Woods hit his first birdie of the day on No. 10. Then on 12, it was Stricker with a birdie to cut the Europeans lead to two.
On the very next hole, Woods birdied again, which was the third hole Team USA won in the last four. That put the pressure on Team Europe, up just one after Woods’ birdie put.
Donald birdied on 15, while Tiger had a disappointing par putt. But Woods came back on No. 16 with his fourth birdie on the back-nine to bring the Americans even closer. Team USA won four of the five points on the back-nine, but it wasn’t quite enough to complete the rally.
Team USA had the chance at the end with Stricker putting for birdie on 18 after Garcia had missed his attempt, but he just barely missed.
Woods and Stricker are the only Americans still without a win in this tournament.
