Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship 2013 purse: Jamie Donaldson takes biggest career purse

Jamie Donaldson will take home $596,428 for a come-from-behind win on the last day of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. It’s only his second career European Tour win, and his biggest purse ever.

One of the biggest wins of Jamie Donaldson’s career will come with a decent prize, as the 37-year-old Welshman will receive nearly $600,000 for winning the 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

Donaldson fended off world No. 5 Justin Rose as well as Thorbjorn Olesen, who finished tied for second at 13-under. Rose had started the day as the leader at 12-under, but Donaldson was four shots under par on the decisive day of the tournament to earn just his second-ever European Tour win. Donaldson nearly cost himself the victory with a bogey on the par-5 18th, but neither Rose nor Olesen could respond by scoring well on the final hole, both parring to tie for second instead of forcing a playoff.

Donaldson’s previous win on the European Tour came last season in the Irish Open. At least monetarily, the Abu Dhabi tourney is the biggest victory of Donaldson’s career. He entered the week with career earnings of just over $6 million.

Here’s the top earners list for the tourney:

1. Jamie Donaldson, $596,428

2. Justin Rose, $310,870

2. Thorbjorn Olesen, $310,870

4. Ricardo Santos, $134,352

5. Branden Grace, $113,930
