Bunker Rake: Tiger Woods controls the golf world

Greetings fellow golf enthusiasts! It was a busy week at the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fl. but I’m back at the office and ready for another week’s Bunker Rake. While I was dabbling in various forms of golf gadgetry and equipment, Tiger gets his game back on track at Torrey Pines. Mother Nature even had a part to play this week, so let’s get started.

Tiger will probably definitely maybe win today - Due to a fog delay on Saturday, the final two rounds of the Farmers Insurance Open were jammed into 13 hours of golf Sunday until darkness halted play.

Want more proof that Tiger Woods controls the golf world? Since he currently holds a 6-shot lead and networks want him on prime television, today’s final round finish was pushed into late afternoon. The issue? Seventeen players not named “Tiger” needed to play in the Monday qualifier for a spot at the Waste Management Phoenix Open later in the week. Now they have no chance to play the qualifier. Gee, thanks Tiger. What a bully.

The LPGA just became (even) more global - During a press conference at the PGA Show, the LPGA announced their new biennial match play competition, the International Crown. Commencing in 2014, the event will span eight countries and feature two players from each in what will prove to be one of the most unique and intriguing formats in the history of women’s golf.

“At the LPGA, we celebrate great players from all over the world on a weekly basis, but this is the first time we’ll pit country versus country for global bragging rights,” said LPGA commissioner Michael Whan. “Only countries that have produced the best female teams can compete and only four players from any one country will be invited.”

Of course, everyone knows Yani Tseng will win the thing.
