Matt Kuchar is yet another example of American depth in the Presidents Cup competition. Kuchar would be a top two player for the International side, but for the USA, he’s one of six or seven players inside or hovering right at the top 10 in the world rankings. Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker established themselves this summer as the two go-to Americans not named Tiger or Phil, and they’ll be counted on this week in the team setting.

It was another huge season for Matt Kuchar, whose two wins this year are the perfect prep for the Presidents Cup.
For Kuchar, that reputation was burnished in two events that are the perfect prep for this week -- the WGC Match Play win in February, and the Memorial victory at Muirfield Village, Jack Nicklaus’ place that is hosting everyone again for the Presidents Cup. It’s hard to make a better case than a win on the host course and a win under the same match play format when it comes to arguing your bona fides as one of the best American options this week.

As Presidents Cup week continues, we'll roll individual previews for all 24 players competing in Columbus. Do the Internationals have the depth to make this competitive again? Of course, time has passed and his form has fluctuated since those two victories, but Kuchar steadily remained inside the top 10 all year, making the cut in all 23 events entered and contending at least once a month. While he remains major-less, his Tour results and stats are unassailable. He’s got a mixed record in these team match play events, posting a .500 record in the Ryder Cup (3-3-2) and a losing record in one Presidents Cup appearance.
Unless he’s opposed by Adam Scott (and even then), Kuchar will almost certainly have the advantage standing on the first tee this week -- regardless of who he’s partnered up with. And unlike some, there’s really no one on the American side who’s not a partner option for Kuchar, one of the nice luxuries for captain Fred Couples.
