Rory McIlroy, Bill Clinton hit the links in Ireland

Rory McIlroy, not be outdone by Tiger Woods teeing it up with Barack Obama in February, hit the links with Bill Clinton on Thursday and then exchanged tweets about their power golf date.

Fresh from their appearance at a fund-raising dinner with mega-rock star and worldwide philanthropist Bono, the duo chatted about McIlroy’s charitable foundation while knocking around the dimpled orb.

McIlroy tuned up for a spate of events, starting with next week’s Korea Open, with Bubba, who receives kudos from near and far for salvaging the former Bob Hope Classic but can’t seem to attract superstar participants other than Phil Mickelson to his Humana Challenge.

Rory, by the way, has become something of a favorite among the POTUS set. He attended a White house dinner last March and apparently gave the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. some tips on his short game, though we’re not sure how much of the lesson took, since Obama four-putted the first hole of a match in Martha’s Vineyard during his summer vacation.

Clinton also took to social media in August to share with McIlroy the progress he was making with his flat stick.

McIlroy, whose most recent outing among his peers was September’s BMW Championship, in which he finished T59, has a busy schedule ahead of him. After the tourney in South Korea, from Oct. 17-20, the Ulsterman will travel to Shanghai for the BMW Masters on Oct. 24, followed by the WGC-HSBC Champions a week later.

The former No. 1 will also pocket some cash for a lucrative tee time with the current No. 1 when he and Woods duke it out in a head-to-head rematch in China on Oct. 28.
