The father-son duo of Jay and Bill Haas are back for their second consecutive Presidents Cup. Jay, a Champions Tour ace, will once again aid captain Fred Couples and oversee his son Bill, who automatically qualified after missing out on last year’s Ryder Cup.
2013 Presidents Cup team: Bill Haas provides depth at back end of American roster
The talented Wake Forest product is back for his second straight Presidents Cup, and he should be motivated to rebound from an underwhelming 2011 showing.

Haas stormed into the 2011 Presidents Cup off an impressive, relatively out-of-nowhere FedExCup win that secured a career $10 million windfall payday. But he struggled in Melbourne, losing three of his five matches and never really making a mark with three separate partners in the first four sessions. He’s played on Walker and Palmer Cup teams before, so team match play isn’t really a new thing for the younger Haas.
After that FedExCup win two years ago, Haas took a bit of a step back in 2012 and narrowly missed out on Medinah. He had to sit home and watch many of his contemporaries play in front of the USA crowds. But he was steady as ever again this year -- he ended the 2013 season with nine top 10 finishes (no one had more) and added a win for the third straight season by taking the AT&T National at Congo. He also finished tied for fourth on this track at the Memorial in June, so he’s familiar with the Nicklaus layout and should be steady off the tee.
Couples will likely pair Haas with fellow Wake Forest alum Webb Simpson. The two have expressed interest in playing together multiple times in the weeks leading up to Muirfield Village, so they should be side-by-side for a majority of the two-man sessions. After the middling 2011 showing, and missing out last year, Haas should be motivated to put some points on the board with his Demon Deacon teammate.
