2013 Presidents Cup scores: USA leads 5 of 6 matches as weather delays hit Muirfield Village

Yet another weather issue at a PGA Tour hosted event.

Andy Lyons

Maintaining form with the rest of the 2013 PGA Tour season, the opening session of the Presidents Cup has been hit with a weather delay. The horn sounded just before 2:40 p.m. ET in the Dublin, OH area with reports of lightning hitting within 15 miles of the course at Muirfield Village.

The rain started right as the first match came to the first tee around 11:45 a.m., and it’s been pretty steady throughout the first three hours of Thursday’s Four-ball session. It really started pouring just before the horn sounded, and then the lightning forced the horn. They were taking the players off the course, which means it won’t be a particularly short delay.

Dan Hicks on Golf Channel indicated that they were expecting a huge downpour that was not supposed to last long. Muirfield Village was already damp at the start of the week, and the American players have been firing darts into the receptive greens for a series of kick-in putts. All six two-man teams are in a groove right now, and the board was completely red until Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen squared up their match just before the delay. But still, it’s another Team USA rout on day 1 of the Presidents Cup:
