2013 Presidents Cup results: USA earns win with 18.5 points at Muirfield Village

The USA, which has lost only once in 10 Presidents Cups, finishes with 18.5 points at Muirfield Village.

The weird thing about the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup is that they’re often decided early on Sunday with plenty of matches still out on the course. Each time, however, the players finish out these matches that don’t mean anything in the larger picture.

On Sunday, the Singles session went far too long before the American team secured the 18th and clinching point. Tiger Woods, playing in the ninth match of the session, eventually secured the fifth straight Presidents Cup win. For the American side, it was a sloppy finish to a rainy week where they slowly built up and extended their lead during three days of start-and-stop golf in Columbus.

The approach changes once you hear your team has clinched the cup, but none of the three matches following Tiger’s would earn the American side a point. Woods would be the last USA point of a session in which Fred Couples’ group won just four of the 12 matches. Overall, the U.S side earned 18.5 of the possible 34 points for their eighth win in 10 Presidents Cups. Here are the full results from Sunday’s singles:
