Frys.com Open kicks off PGA Tour’s inaugural wrap-around golf season

Welcome to the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season.

Robert Laberge

If it seems like just two and a half weeks ago that Henrik Stenson closed out the 2013 PGA Tour season with a win at the Tour Championship, that’s because the men’s golf year officially ended on September 22. Yet, here we are again, kicking off yet another campaign in which pundits can begin ticking off the months (six), weeks (26), and days (183) until Tiger Woods has a chance to nab that elusive 15th major championship.

With the world No. 1 and his heavy-hitting brethren taking a breather after the Presidents Cup before they hop back on the money train and chase those appearance fees in Turkey and China, the likes of defending champion Jonas Blixt, three players from the losing Internationals squad, and an assistant U.S. captain will launch the start to the official never-ending golf season, the Frys.com Open.

Blixt, Angel Cabrera (2-2-0 at Muirfield Village), Hideki Matsuyama (1-3-1), Marc Leishman (2-2-0), and Davis Love III are your headliners for the 2013-2014 wrap-around season that begins Thursday at CordeValle Golf Club and ends with next year’s Tour Championship. This marks the seventh year of the Frys.com Open and the fourth time the 7,379-yard, par-71, Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed track will host the event.

With FedExCup points at stake and, for the first time, a tee time at the Masters awaiting the winner of this week’s tilt in San Martin, Calif., all aboard for the first stop on the way to Augusta!
