Kuchar started the day off with three straight birdies and finished without a single bogey in his flawless Round 1 display. He will hope his solid start bodes well for the rest of the tournament, as he recorded just one top-15 finish in his last seven appearances at Riviera.
Sergio Garcia isn’t far behind after shooting a 6-under 65 in his opening round. He birdied his final hole to close the gap to a single stroke.
Brandt Jobe finished tied for third with a 5-under 66. The former UCLA Bruin knows the course well after playing it often throughout his college tenure.
