The PGA Tour swings to Arizona this week for the first WGC event of the 2013 season -- the Accenture Match Play. It’s golf’s version of March Madness, with 64 of the top players in the world taking a break from the typical stroke play events for this bracket of match play.
2013 WGC-Accenture Match Play bracket: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy lead loaded field in Arizona
Nearly all of the top 64 players in the world will be on hand in Arizona this year for golf’s version of March Madness.
Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker are two of the bigger names opting to skip this week, but almost every other top player from across the planet will be at Dove Mountain in Arizona. Snedeker’s win at Pebble Beach earlier this month vaulted him into the top four in the world rankings, but his absence opens up the fourth and final No. 1 seed to Louis Oosthuizen. The other three top seeds are all here, and they are Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and Luke Donald.
As is always the case with a WGC event, there are representatives from a multitude of countries -- players not usually seen playing in the US on the PGA Tour. Overall, there are 17 countries represented, with 21 Americans filling 64 slots. Here’s the full 2013 bracket, with play set to begin Wednesday morning:
