Strong performances by Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Invitational in Arizona launched both into the top three of the money list for the young golf season.
PGA Tour Money List 2013: Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan crack top 3
Regardless of who won the finals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Invitational, both Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan were guaranteed to bring home a nice payday. They’re Nos. 2 and 3 on the money list for the early 2013 season.

Kuchar got $1.5 million for his 2 and 1 win over Mahan in the finals, bumping him from 23rd place on the list to the No. 2 spot, behind only Brandt Snedeker. Mahan, who won the match play event last year, got $875,000, enough to bump him from 19th place to No. 3. Snedeker has a nice solid lead thanks to his consistently high finishes throughout the first two months of the season, including a win at Pebble Beach.
Kuchar finished 11th on last year’s money list, thanks in large part to a win at The Players Championship -- a performance that gave him over half of the $3.1 million he made on the year. Mahan was ninth.
And let’s not forget Jason Day, who beat Ian Poulter in the third-place match. That was a performance that gave him $615,000 -- a nice chunk more than the $500,000 Poulter made for coming in fourth -- and bumped him up from 31st on the season money list to just outside the top ten. He’s now 11th on the money list and is the 11th golfer to earn $1 million on tour this season.
Here’s the top 10 of the money list:
