FedEx Cup standings 2013: Matt Kuchar up to No. 2

After winning the 2013 Accenture Match Play Championship, Matt Kuchar made a huge jump in the FedEx Cup Standings.

After defeating Hunter Mahan in the final round of the 2013 Accenture Match Play Championship, Matt Kuchar made quite the leap in the FedEx Cup Standings. Surpassing Phil Mickelson, Kuchar now sits at No. 2 overall in the rankings with 811 total points. The big jump will surely continue the debate over the WGC events, which foreclose the opportunity for points and earnings, to a large portion of the regular PGA Tour players.

Kuchar bested Mahan 2 and 1 to take him the title just a year after losing to his same opponent in the quarterfinals of the same event. A short putt for Kuchar on the 17th hole forced Mahan to concede before he ever struck a putt of his own.

Kuchar’s first-place finish at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Ariz. on Sunday earned him 550 points. Hunter Mahan also shot up the standings, improving from No. 18 to No. 4 overall after losing in the final match.

Brandt Snedeker, who’s been the most consistent golfer in the world through the first two months of the season, still remains in control of first place with 1,282 total points. Here’s the current top 10 as of Feb. 25:
