Shell Houston Open scores 2013: Stewart Cink, Bill Haas take over lead in third round

Their are two new leaders at the 2013 Shell Houston Open, as Stewart Cink and Bill Haas each climbed to earn a share of the lead with scores of 68 and 67, respectively, on Saturday. With one round left to play, though, there are 13 players within two strokes of the lead.

One player not within two strokes is Rory McIlroy, the second-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, who was just one stroke away from being cut after the second round on Friday. While McIlroy’s day on Saturday began strongly, with four birdies and eight pars on the first 12 holes, it ended with three bogeys, leaving him nine strokes off the lead.

Phil Mickelson began Saturday in a tie with McIlroy, but climbed 33 spots up the leaderboard into the top 25 after hitting seven birdies in the third round. His score of 67 was his best of the tournament so far, but he’d likely need an even more impressive round on Sunday to make up five strokes on the leaders.

The best two performances of the day came from Bud Cauley and Louis Oosthuizen, who each finished with scores of 65, seven strokes under par. The pair each entered the third round eight strokes off the lead, but placed themselves firmly in contention and will begin Sunday two strokes behind the leading pair.
