Tiger Woods is now out on the course at Augusta National, and the four-time Masters winner is even-par through his first two holes. It’s been slow-going at the start, with the 10:45 tee time needing 40 minutes just to get to the third tee.
Masters 2013 leaderboard: Tiger Woods opens with 2 pars at Augusta National
The No. 1 player is out on a front nine that’s yielding birdies early, just not yet to Mr. Woods.
Tiger, who had the honor on the first tee, pulled three-wood and blasted a cut down the fairway. The 3-wood cut is about as reliable a shot in Tiger’s arsenal, and it came as no surprise he put it right in the middle. The first is a gettable hole, with several players in the early morning groups opening with a red number. Tiger, however, missed a 15-foot putt for birdie and had to settle with an opening par.
Despite the red numbers at No. 1 ahead of him, the opening hole at Augusta has given Tiger trouble throughout the years. As Bob Harig notes, he’s played it 16-over through the years, his worst record on a hole at Augusta.
In his Masters career, Tiger is +16 on No. 1, highest of any hole. Getting thru it with a par today a good thing. #Masters

Tiger dodged the bogey, but his playing partners, Luke Donald and Scott Piercy, were not as fortunate.
On the second hole, however, Woods truly missed an opportunity to move into the red at the easier par-5. This was the scene of Louis Oosthuizen’s double eagle last year, and it’s one of the better chances for birdie on the course. Tiger’s route to victory always consists of domination on the par-5s, but he started his 2013 Masters week with a ho-hum par at No. 2. He’ll walk off the second disappointed with that number, but as Jim Furyk has demonstrated, he’ll get plenty more chances on the first nine.
Furyk is the early pacesetter, playing the first eight holes in 4-under par. That number should be encouraging for Woods, who should have several birdie putts ahead of him. Here’s a current snapshot of the leaderboard, as well as some other notables out on the course:
| Score | Player | Thru |
| -4 | Jim Furyk | 8 |
| -4 | David Lynn | 12 |
| -2 | Justin Rose | 8 |
| E | Graeme McDowell | 6 |
| E | Ian Poulter | 2 |
| E | Tiger Woods | 1 |
| E | Bubba Watson | 2 |
| 2 | Rickie Fowler | 1 |
