Masters 2013: Scott Piercy psyched to play Augusta with Tiger Woods

Scott Piercy will make his Masters debut in the company of one Tiger Woods. Ho-hum, says the Augusta rookie.

USA TODAY Sports

AUGUSTA, GA -- Scott Piercy was relaxed and carefree on the eve of the biggest round in his PGA Tour career -- playing the first round of the 2013 Masters with prohibitive tourney favorite and golf’s No. 1, Tiger Woods.

“Ain’t no thing,” Piercy, an IZOD athlete, said about Thursday’s opening round in front of the game’s largest galleries.

“I’m just excited; it’s my first time playing with him,” Piercy said in a Google Plus Hangout session Wednesday night. “I’m excited to see all the crowds, and it’s just golf as usual. Just got a bigger crowd and the greatest player ever in your group.

“Ain’t no thing,” Piercy said at the fashion golfwear maker’s kickoff to the Masters tourney at a party in the IZOD Social Hub at the Maxim Clubhouse directly across the street from Augusta National.

Joining Piercy at the best party in town were Masters participant and style maven Rickie Fowler (no truth to the completely unsubstantiated rumor I just made up that the flat-billed heartthrob plans a switch from Puma to Piercy’s sportswear sponsor) and IZOD player Spencer Levin. Recovering from a thumb injury, Levin is on the disabled list for the near future.

About the spectator circus that always follows Woods from tee to green and back to the tee, Piercy was unconcerned.

“I think the crowd here at Augusta is really respectful,” he said. “It’s actually really quiet here, with so many people, so I think it will be a good thing to have all those people out.”

Piercy, who told SBNation recently that he was trying to downplay his first start on golf’s most spectacular stage, got off to a shaky start, with bogeys on the first and third holes. Tiger, for his part, was even-par through four. Luke Donald, the third member of the marquee threesome was at 1-under. -- Live from IZOD Social Hub
