Masters cut line: Rory McIlroy back to even with an eagle at No. 8

Rory McIlroy’s second round didn’t start very well, but after two bogeys in his first three holes, Mcilroy has rebounded to close out his front nine.

After shooting an even-par 72 on Thursday, McIlroy got off to a rough start on Friday. He bogeyed the first hole to drop to 1-over. After a par at the par-5 second, McIlroy dropped his second shot of the day with a bogey at No. 3. McIlroy settled down from there, with four straight pars. He finished out his first round in style with an eagle at No. 8.

McIlroy set up the eagle with a tremendous approach shot. Going for the green in two, McIlroy hit his approach shot within a few feet, setting up an easy eagle putt. McIlroy finished the front nine with a par to make the turn at even-par. While he’s still a few strokes strokes off of contention, McIlroy shouldn’t be in any danger of not making the weekend.

The top 50 plus ties and anyone within 10 strokes of the lead will make the cut. Mcilroy is currently tied for 28th and well ahead of the projected cut line on 5-over. Barring a significant meltdown on the back nine, McIlroy will be around for the weekend.
