Tiger Woods now sits in a tie atop the Masters leaderboard as his stellar second round has continued on the back nine. He is currently 5-under overall, tied for the lead with Fred Couples and Marc Leishman.
Tiger Woods tied for the lead at Augusta National
Tiger Woods continues to roll through Augusta National on Friday and is now tied for the lead at 5-under.
After making the turn at 3-under on the round, Woods navigated his way through a difficult stretch to open the back side. His approach shot on No. 10 rolled well past the hole, leaving a long birdie attempt. His putt came up short, but he was able to covert the four-foot par putt.
With the leaders taking a step back, Woods found himself in a tie for the lead at 5-under. He nearly took sole possession of the lead at No. 11 as his lengthy birdie putt came up just short. A tap in for par sent him to No. 12 still tied for the lead.
Woods ran into some trouble on No. 12 as he sailed his tee shot on the par-3 over the green and into a bunker. His short game has been excellent thus far and that trend continued as he got up-and-down to save par and remain in a share for the lead.
His drive on No. 12 found the second cut which forced him to lay up rather than go for the green in two. He hit a low approach shot which ran up the green and left him with a 15-foot birdie putt for sole possession of the lead. A late break near the cup left Woods with a tap in par.
According to ESPN’s broadcast, Woods has held the 36-hole lead at the Masters just once in his career. With five holes to play, Woods has a chance to accomplish the feat a second time.
