Tiger Woods has issued a comment on the controversy swirling at Augusta National this morning over an illegal drop he took at No. 15 on Friday. Woods, or someone representing him, sent the statement in a series of tweets just before Noon:

As for his thoughts on the notion that he should DQ himself? Um, no.
At hole #15, I took a drop that I thought was correct and in accordance with the rules. I was unaware at that time I had violated any rules.

Tiger rarely uses his Twitter account for instant observations or musings. But the penalty, and then his response to it, will be the biggest story in golf this year. There has been a lot of outside pressure from golf commentators and former players for Woods to DQ himself, but reports came out that, unsurprisingly, he had no such plans. And there’s absolutely no mention of that possibility in these tweets.
With his tee time coming up, he and his team, probably agent Marc Steinberg and media man Glen Greenspan, decided to take to Twitter to at least acknowledge publicly what went down.
Tiger will now start the day five shots back at 1-under. While his score has been bumped down, his tee time will remain the same, going off with Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano at 1:45 p.m. ET. It should make for an interesting day at Augusta.
