The Masters 2013: Can Adam Scott, Jason Day break Australian curse at Augusta?

In 2011, both Jason Day and Adam Scott had a chance to win Australia’s first Masters title. Can either man close the deal Sunday?

An Australian golfer has never won a Masters green jacket.

Such is the challenge Adam Scott, Jason Day and Marc Leishman face Sunday afternoon at the 2013 Masters. All three men have a significant chance at not only winning their first major title, but one for the history books.

This is not the first time we’ve heard this story.

Greg Norman has forever been known, unfortunately, for his failures at Augusta. Having been the Aussie closest to Masters victory in the history of the event, Norman undoubtedly thinks of what could have been in years past. Thanks to the aforementioned three players, however, Australia has hope.

In 2011, both Day and Scott were in prime position late Sunday afternoon in what would become one of the most exciting Masters tournaments ever. Both men held a share of the lead at some moment that day. Of course, South African Charl Schwartzel would rise to the top ultimately, once again leaving Australian golf fans wondering when their players’ time would come.

Now Scott, Day and Leishman are in what seems like a team effort. Either man would obviously love to write their names in history.

These chances simply do not come every day.
