Rory McIlroy and Webb Simpson are the favorites at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, with each hoping to have success at a course where they’ve been relatively successful.
Wells Fargo Championship 2013 odds: Rory McIlroy, Webb Simpson favored
Rory McIlroy has one win at Quail Hollow and one second-place finish, while it’s Webb Simpson’s home course, making each a good candidate for a win this weekend.

If Tiger Woods is playing, he’s the odds-on favorite at any golf tournament in the world thus far in 2013. And although there’s a star-studded field at the Quail Hollow Club, Woods isn’t in it - meaning we actually have to put on our thinking caps to figure out who’s likely to have a good weekend.
It’s amazing that only two years ago, McIlroy had never won a PGA Tour title. His first was at Quail Hollow in 2011, leading to a spree where he’d win five events, including two majors and two FedEx Cup events, rising to the world’s No. 2 ranking. He finished in second in 2012 after a playoff with Rickie Fowler. Those strong performances make him a contender, despite a rough beginning to 2013.
For Simpson, Quail Hollow is home: the Raleigh native lives in Charlotte and plays the course frequently. He’s never won, but he led through 54 holes last year and finished second last week at the RBC Heritage Classic.
Other notables include Phil Mickelson, who has six top-10 finishes in Charlotte, and Fowler, who, as noted, won last year. Here’s a listing of the top options, per the odds at Bovada:
Rory McIlroy: 8-1
Webb Simpson: 14-1
Lee Westwood: 16-1
Phil Mickelson: 16-1
Bubba Watson: 20-1
Rickie Fowler: 22-1
Sergio Garcia: 22-1
Nick Watney: 25-1
Bill Haas: 28-1
D. A. Points: 40-1
