It will be a long Sunday at the 2013 Players Championship, with both the conclusion of the third round and the final round on the schedule. Some inclement weather delayed the golf late Saturday afternoon, and eight players were unable to complete their round before another line of dark clouds forced the Tour officials to call play due to darkness.
Players Championship 2013 streaming: How to watch Sunday’s round online
The biggest names in the game are in contention on long Sunday at The Players, which will be available online through three different livestreams.
The third round will restart at 7 a.m. ET, with the final pairing of Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia still having four holes to play. It was a day full of drama for the superstar pairing as Garcia took some time during the rain delay to blame Tiger for causing a commotion which led to a poor Sergio approach shot on No. 2. Tiger, of course, was aware of the comments as they went back out to play eight more holes before the darkness. When the players came in around 8 p.m., they indirectly exchanged barbs about the controversy, setting the stage for a tense finish on Sunday morning.
Woods and Garcia will start the day two shots back of David Lingmerth, and should finish the third round just after 8 a.m. ET. With so many players finishing up Saturday, and the last groups getting so deep into the round, the Tour will re-pair the players and send everyone off in new groups for the final round. Occasionally, the PGA Tour will make the call to simply keep the groups together and roll the tee times over for the final round in order to play as many holes as possible to get a Sunday finish. But that won’t be necessary at TPC Sawgrass, with the new tee times beginning at the bottom of the leaderboard shortly after the leaders finish their third round.
Golf Channel will broadcast the the third round restart first thing in the morning, and then hand over the TV coverage to their sister network, NBC, for the originally scheduled afternoon fourth round. NBC’s Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller will have the call all day, as the network enters a two-month stretch with the game’s two biggest events -- The Players on Mother’s Day and next month’s U.S. Open on Father’s Day.
With this being the PGA Tour’s marquee event, they ensure that there’s broad coverage to feed into the hype that it’s the “fifth major.” In addition to the extended TV broadcast, the PGA Tour’s website will offer two livestream channels, dedicated to featured groups and featured holes. The featured groups will be announced once the fourth round pairings are set (updated info below), but the featured holes will focus on the two back nine par-3s at Nos. 13 and 17. The island green at the 17th is the iconic symbol for this made-for-tv event, and the Tour has made sure all week that fans could see every shot at the hole.
In addition to the two streams at the PGA Tour’s website, NBC, through GolfChannel.com, will offer a livestream that simulcasts the TV coverage all afternoon. Here’s the complete TV schedule for the rest of the weekend, and the streaming options for Saturday:
