Tiger Woods won his first Players Championship since 2001 -- and his fourth tournament of the year -- after firing a final round 70 on Sunday afternoon at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
Tiger Woods wins the 2013 Players Championship
Tiger Woods held off a slew of top players on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass to capture his first Players Championship since 2001.

The victory would not come easy. A slew of players remained on Tiger’s tail throughout the day, including the likes of Sergio Garcia, Martin Laird, David Lingmerth and Jeff Maggert. Woods played his first five holes in steady form and looked like he would begin pulling away from the field. Standing on the No. 6 tee box at TPC Sawgrass, Tiger held a one-shot lead at 13-under par before carding his first bogey of the day a few moments later.
Tiger would get that shot right back on hole No.7 after sinking an impressive 15-foot putt just off the green. A mild fist-pump reminded everyone that he is more confident now with his game this year, particularly on a course where he hasn’t historically played well. From that point on, everything was elementary for the World No. 1.
Or so it seemed. Woods found the water on his tee shot on hole No. 14 and eventually made double-bogey to drop back toward the field to 12-under and in a three-way tie with Jeff Maggert and Sergio Garcia. After a birdie at 16, Woods was the solo-leader once again at 13-under.
Garcia also birdied No. 16 to tie Tiger, but then decided to audition for Tin Cup II by dropping two balls in the lake on the island green hole no. 17.
Woods will finish at 13-under overall, clinching his 78th career victory.
