The 2013 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, kicked off on Thursday, and there are currently four Americans tied for first place after finishing their play at 5-under, and veteran lefty Phil Mickelson one shot off the pace at 4-under. Boo Weekley also finished play at 4-under, but Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts is making a strong run at the lead as well by going 4-under through nine holes.

Tied for the lead after they finished play on Thursday were Ryan Moore, Nick Watney, Robert Garrigus, and Derek Ernst at 5-under. Ernst is just 22, having graduated from UNLV in 2012 and only starting on the PGA Tour in October of last year. Watney, 32, is the most accomplished of the four leaders, having five wins on the PGA Tour, and finishing seventh in both the Masters and The Open Championship in 2010.

Also charging the leaderboard is two-time Major championship winner Rory McIlroy, currently at 3-under through nine holes. McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship in 2010 with a score of 15-under.

Reigning Wells Fargo champion Rickie Fowler finished the day at even par.
