2013 U.S. Open: Tiger Woods practices at Merion -- in cargo shorts!

Tiger Woods played his first ever practice round at Merion Golf Club on Tuesday in the rain while wearing (call the fashion police!) shorts with pockets on (gasp!) outside.

Tiger Woods played his first practice round at Merion Golf Club in the rain on Tuesday, and thanks to an eagle-eyed Twitter follower and a blurry photo from a local ABC affiliate, it seems he took to the soggy East Course that will host next month’s U.S. Open in Michael Jordan’s golf attire of choice.

Woods, who would not be welcome at La Gorce CC in Miami Beach in shorts that sport pockets on the outside, made his first scouting trip to the track in Ardmore, Pa., on the way to this week’s Memorial Tournament where he is the run-away favorite to walk away with his 79th PGA Tour win.

There was no fanfare for Woods’ Merion jaunt -- just a practice day with Buddy Marucci, a member of the club and the guy who lost to Woods in the final of the 1995 U.S. Amateur, according to Michael Bamberger.
