Phil Mickelson is in control at Quail Hollow.

Mickelson started Friday’s round off right, birdying the first two holes. He also shot birdies on holes seven, nine, 14 and 15 as well, and the only hole he bogeyed was 12. He finished the second round by shooting a 67, one under his score on Thursday.
Scott Gardiner, Nick Watney and George McNeill are all tied for second place at seven under par, while there are five players tied for fifth place at six under par, including Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Rod Pampling. The cut line ended up at two over par and some of the players that didn’t make it include Robert Gates, Scott Langley and Bubba Watson. Last year’s winner, Rickie Fowler, is sitting tied for 47th place at even par.
The winner after Sunday’s fourth round will take home the lion’s share of a total purse of $6.7 million.
