Tiger Woods had a rough opening round at the 2013 Memorial Tournament on Thursday, shooting a 1-under 71 to finish six shots off leader Charl Schwartzel. Woods could not capitalize on what had been a forgiving front nine for Schwartzel and second-place Scott Piercy (6-under) at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Woods shot 1-under on pins 1-9, while Schwartzel and Piercy shot 3-under and 5-under, respectively.

Tiger Woods got off to a slow start at the 2013 Memorial Tournament, shooting 1-under on Thursday to finish six shots off leader Charl Schwartzel.


Woods had opportunities to make up ground over the course of the back nine, but each of his three birdies was followed up by a bogey on the next hole. He bogeyed No. 18 to finish in what is currently a pack of 15 golfers tied for 29th place, though he has some esteemed company. Bubba Watson, Kevin Streelman, and Keegan Bradley also join Woods at 1-under heading into Friday.
