The third round of the 2013 Wells Fargo Championship is underway from Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. With a handful of the world’s top-ranked golfers beginning the day near the top of the leaderboard, there will be no shortage of storylines to keep an eye on this weekend.

Phil Mickelson began the day as the tournament’s leader at 9-under. Through the first five holes of the day, Mickelson is at even-par after bogeying No. 3 and making birdie on No. 5. Scott Gardiner, Derek Ernst and Nick Watney are currently one stroke back of Mickelson at 8-under.

The big movers of the day have been Ryan Moore, John Senden and D.H. Lee. Moore began the day at 2-under par, but he’s currently 5-under through 16 holes. Senden and Lee entered the third round at 1-under. Through 16 holes, they’re both 4-under for the round and have moved into the hunt for a large chunk of the $6.7 million purse up for grabs.

Rory McIlroy briefly held a share of the lead on Thursday afternoon, but a rough second round moved him down the leaderboard. Through eight holes on Saturday, McIlroy is 2-under for the round and sits at 8-under for the tournament.
