Players Championship 2013: Adam Scott returns to action at TPC Sawgrass

Fresh off his first-career major win at The Masters, Adam Scott returns to TPC Sawgrass for an event he has already won in the past.

Masters champion Adam Scott has a flare for the dramatic.

In 2004, Scott became the youngest player to ever win The Players Championship at the age of 23. Nine years later, he would become the first-ever Australian to don a green jacket at Augusta National. This week, Scott returns to the site of what was previously his biggest career accomplishment under a spotlight that has never been brighter.

The TPC Sawgrass is a trying test for any player, however Scott’s resume thus far in 2013 is impressive. He is ranked eighth in driving distance overall (300.6 yards), 17th in birdies per round (4.006) and first in overall scoring (69.027). He has arguably never been playing better in his career and should have mountains of confidence from Augusta.

The question for Scott, of course, is what he will do with all of those numbers and intangibles. You can’t make birdies with movie-star good looks, folks. There was a time when he was as well-known for his on-course troubles as his off-course personal life. However, Scott has never confused natural-born talent with hard work, nor has he exclusively relied on one over the other.

How Adam Scott will respond to the new bulls-eye on his back will be as big a story as any at The Players. If his play to this point is any indication, Scott is more than ready to perform.
