Sergio Garcia wondered if the distraction of the latest iteration of his long-time spat with Tiger Woods would affect his play at this week’s U.S. Open.

“I don’t know, we’ll see,” Garcia told reporters on Tuesday about whether he would be able to contend this week. “It obviously doesn’t help, but it’s my own fault so I don’t have anyone to blame other than myself.”
In just five holes, before and after a lengthy weather delay, at least a partial verdict was in, and Sergio is likely out of it.
After starting on No. 11 with a bogey and adding a birdie on 13 and a double on the par-4 16th, Garcia blasted his tee shot way out of bounds to the left on the par-4 15th and ended up with a triple-bogey 8. It’s a disaster comparable to the one we saw last time Garcia was stateside, when he rinsed three balls on the final two holes at Sawgrass.
Tied for DFL in the morning wave at 6-over, it could be a rather short week for the embattled Spaniard, who officially apologized in writing to Woods for his racially insensitive “fried chicken” crack last month.
