With tough pin locations and a drying golf course, the second round of the U.S. Open is proving to be an even more difficult task than it was in the first round. Under-par scores are almost non-existent as just three players remain in the red.
U.S. Open 2013 leaderboard: Phil Mickelson still leading
Par is quickly becoming a very good score at the U.S. Open as the course is playing more than five strokes over par on Friday.

Phil Mickelson began the second round with the lead but, just like Thursday, Mickelson bogeyed his opening hole on Friday. Mickelson hit the first green in regulation, but his ensuing putt came up well short. After missing his par putt, Mickelson ended up three-putting his way to an opening bogey.
Despite the unfortunate bogey, Mickelson is still in the lead as a bogey at No. 3 by Nicolas Colsaerts dropped the latter to 1-under. Mickelson and Colsaerts are joined under par by Billy Horschel after he shot a 3-under 67 on Friday and finished Friday as the clubhouse leader at 1-under.
Additionally, Luke Donald is even par through two rounds after shooting a 2-over 72 on Friday. He moved to 4-under at one point on Friday, but a stretch of five bogeys over six holes dropped him out of the red.
Tiger Woods’ second round was up-and-down, but he was able to finish the day at even par and 3-over for the tournament. Woods had a few birdie opportunities, but continued to struggle with the speed of the greens. Rory McIlroy also finished at even par on Friday and, like Woods, sits at 3-over through two rounds. Adam Scott didn’t fare as well as his playing partners, however, finishing with a 5-over 75 on Friday and at 7-over may end up on the wrong side of the cut line.
Scott wasn’t the only notable name struggling on Friday. Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell each shot 7-over 77’s on Friday while Jim Furyk is 16-over after shooting a 9-over 79 on Friday. Below is a quick look at the top of the scoreboard as well as a few notables.
