Steve Stricker opened the final round one shot off the lead, but the usually steady player is having major issues early Sunday. Stricker is now four shots off the lead after carding a 3-over 8 on the Par 5 second hole.
U.S. Open 2013: Things not going well for Steve Stricker
The second hole was not kind to Steve Stricker, who has now fallen well off the lead at the U.S. Open.
The issues began off the tee for Stricker as he hit his first shot way right and out of bounds. Stricker’s second tee shot found the fairway, but he badly shanked his fourth shot to the right and out of bounds. It was a shocking sequence for Stricker, who has been solid all week.
Shot tracker isn’t an exact science, but we’re pretty sure this is accurate.

After hitting two balls out of bounds, Stricker hit his seventh shot to the green, setting up a putt for triple bogey. He was able to sink the putt to help limit the damage, but still lost significant ground on the leaders. While not out of contention, Stricker stares at a major deficit. He double-bogeyed No. 9 on Saturday and was able to work his way back to even par for the round.
