Justin Rose will savor his U.S. Open win for a couple of days and then get right back to it at this week’s Travelers Championship.
U.S. Open winner Justin Rose keeps commitment to play the Travelers Championship
Justin Rose heads up I-95 from Merion to TPC River Highlands for this week’s Travelers Championship.

Rose, thanks to his two-stroke U.S. Open victory at Merion Golf Club in suburban Philadelphia last week, is the headliner for the tourney at which Bubba Watson won his first PGA Tour event in 2010. A stalwart cast of characters, including Watson, 2011 PGA champ Keegan Bradley, last year’s U.S. Open titleholder Webb Simpson, and first-time Travelers contender Lee Westwood, will join Rose at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
Tournament director Nathan Grube was thrilled to learn that the first-time major winner would fulfill his earlier commitment to the event.
“I did speak with [Rose’s wife] Kate on Sunday night and she said they were still coming,” Grube told SBNation in an e-mail Tuesday morning. “When a player goes through winning a major and is dealing with all the extra responsibility, you never know how things can change. I am really glad he will be here as the fans are very excited to see him.”
The event, staged on the 6,841-yard, par-70 course will host 47 golfers who played at Merion, according to PGATour.com. Those guys probably can’t wait to carve up the Pete Dye-redesigned track and start making some birdies, a score that was hard hard to come by at stingy Merion.
Other notables in the field this week will be Jason Dufner and Hunter Mahan, who shared fourth place at Merion; Mike Weir, whose final-round 1-under 69 was one of the low scores Merion yielded on Sunday; fan fave Rickie Fowler; and John Daly, playing under a sponsor exemption.
