2013 U.S. Open pairings: Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy to play together at Merion

The world’s top three golfers will tee it up together in the first two rounds of the U.S. Open at Merion.

Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, and Rory McIlroy will make up the marquee group for the first two days of next week’s U.S. Open, and what golf fan could ask for anything more enticing than watching the three top players go at each other to kick off the men’s second major of the season?

Stories-within-the story abound with the featured threesome. You got your Tiger-v.-Rory would-be rivalry that’s hit a snag of late with the lackluster play of young No. 2, the will-Stevie-Williams-upstage-his-former-boss thread with Tiger’s ex-caddie on the bag of the first Aussie to win the Masters, and the will-Rory-finally-find-his-game-under-the-watchful-eye-of-his-Nike-stablemate angle, just to name a few.

For sure, McIlroy, who’s been on the short end of the stick nine out of 12 times he’s played with Woods, found the grouping enticing:
