British Open leaderboard 2013: Tiger Woods moves into the lead

Tiger Woods is off to a good start at Muirfield and an early birdie has him atop the leaderboard.

Matthew Lewis

Tiger Woods has had issues on the weekend at majors recently, but that hasn’t been the case early on Saturday as he is now leading the Open Championship at 3-under.

Woods has been sharp thus far, drilling irons off the tees into the middle of the fairway on each of the first three holes. His birdie attempt on No. 1 wasn’t on a very good line, but it left him with an easy tap-in par to begin his round. Woods wasn’t happy with his approach at No. 2 as the ball kicked left on the green, leaving a 30-foot birdie try. He’s putted well this week and that continued on Saturday as he drilled the long birdie try to move to 3-under.

The birdie put Woods into a tie for the lead with Miguel Angel Jimenez, but a missed par putt at No. 2 dropped Jimenez to 2-under and left Woods alone at the top.

While still a challenge, Muirfield is playing slightly easier on Saturday, with a few players going under par in their rounds. Hunger Mahan moved to even par after making the turn at 34 while Phil Mickelson is 1-under on the round and even for the tournament.
