If Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and the rest of the all-star cast aiming to win the final major of the season gripe about Sunday’s pin position on the 15th hole at Oak Hill Country Club, they’ll have the fans to blame.
PGA Championship 2013: Fans to choose pin location for final round at Oak Hill
Jack Nicklaus came up with the idea to let fans vote on where to spot the 15th-hole flagstick in Sunday’s final round of the PGA Championship.

In a first for the PGA of America, the organizers of the PGA Championship will let fans get in on the action by choosing where to spot the flagstick on the tricky, downhill, 181-yard, par-3. Between now and August 10, online participants in the “PGA Championship Pick the Hole Location Challenge Hosted by Jack Nicklaus” may choose one of four locations on the narrow green.
Nicklaus, who won the tourney at Oak Hill in 1980, came up with the idea, which the PGA believes will get more fans involved, according to Kerry Haigh, the PGA’s chief championships officer. The 18-time major champion offers his unique insights to help fans determine where to place the pin.

“The chance for golf fans to interact with the PGA Championship and play a role in shaping the outcome of the final round fascinates me,” Nicklaus said in a statement launching the challenge. “It’s like being able to call the shots during the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl.”
Fans, who may cast their votes on the PGA of America website, will see the winning pin location for the mid-length par-3 hole, which features water on the right and three bunkers left, during the August 11 finale.
Rory McIlroy is defending champion for the event, scheduled from August 8-August 11.
