2013 Senior Open results: Mark Wiebe tops Bernhard Langer in playoff

Wiebe picked up his fourth win on the Champions Tour and his first major championship.

Mark Wiebe won the 2013 Senior Open in dramatic fashion -- it took multiple playoff holes -- and he did it under an unusual set of circumstances. The playoff between Wiebe and Bernhard Langer actually spanned two days; the pair had to call it quits Sunday night because of darkness, and they finished up early Monday morning.

All told, the pair played the 18th hole five times before a winner was finally determined. Langer’s bogey the fifth time through cost him the tournament, and this is a defeat that will probably linger for a while. After fighting adverse weather conditions throughout the final round, Langer took a two-stroke lead into the last hole. He stumbled though, double-bogeying to open the door for Wiebe.

Here’s a look at the final leaderboard:

Senior Open Results
1 Mark Wiebe -9
2 Bernhard Langer -9
T3 David Frost -6
T3 Corey Pavin -6
T3 Peter Senior -6
6 Peter Fowler -4
7 Sandy Lyle -3
T8 Jeff Hart -2
T8 Tom Pernice Jr. -2
10 Gene Sauers -1
