2013 Greenbrier Classic leaderboard: Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner lead after first round

Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner are tied atop the leaderboard after 18 holes.

Chris Trotman

Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner had no problem with the Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. in the first round of the Greenbrier Classic. Both golfers shot 8-under 62s to move to the top of the leaderboard, two shots clear of their challengers.

Gainey started strong, making birdies on the first two holes, but he made his real move in the middle of the round when he birdied four consecutive holes from No. 8 to No. 11. Two more birdies on 16 and 17 wrapped up a bogey-free round for the 37-year-old and has him in first place.

Wagner is right there with him after a blistering start to his first round. He made five birdies on the first nine and added a birdie at 11 and eagle at 12 before six straight pars to close out his round of 62.

Webb Simpson and Jin Park are Gainey and Wagner’s closest challengers, having shot 6-under in the first round, while nine players are in a tie for fifth at 4-under.
