Bubba Watson’s hovercraft golf cart to debut at Ohio course

Bubba Watson won’t be on hand for its debut, but the Windy Knoll Golf Club will introduce two hovercrafts at its Ohio location later this month.

Bubba Watson could probably lobby for commissions after the company that makes the hovercraft golf cart the 2012 Masters champ made famous in a YouTube video gone viral sold two of the otherworldly conveyances to a golf course in Ohio for use by its patrons.

The Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield will become the first in the U.S. to make two Neoteric Golf hovercrafts available for certain events starting on July 27. Course officials, who paid $58,000 for each mechanism, had yet to determine a rental rate, a club spokesperson told SB Nation on Monday.

To kick off the festivities, World Golf Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez, current LPGA Tour player Paige Mackenzie, and Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte will greet the arrival of the space-age vehicles that can fly over hazards and land on the greens like the proverbial butterfly with sore feet.

Windy Knoll is a public-access, links-style track built on a former horse farm. The course is located some 30 minutes from Dayton and 34 minutes from Columbus.

“We wanted to be able to offer something no other course could,” managing director Pete Duffey said in a statement. “A way to further put Windy Knoll Golf Club on the map of public destination golf courses. It was an easy decision. When we saw them on YouTube, we said ‘We gotta have those!’”

Neoteric’s traditional markets for its hovercrafts are police, fire, the U.S. Air Force, and Disney World. Each device features a 65-horsepower engine that reach speeds up to 50 m.p.h., side-by-side seating for as many as four passengers, and two golf bags.
