PGA Championship: Matt Kuchar not having fun in the sand

Matt Kuchar got into some trouble in the bunker at No. 2 and his ball ended up lodged in the lip.

Finding a bunker off the tee makes it hard to make birdies at Oak Hill, but Matt Kuchar’s tee shot into a fairway bunker proved extra costly.

Kuchar drove his ball into a fairway bunker at No. 2. He attempted to go for the green with his second shot, but didn’t get enough elevation and the ball caught the lip of the bunker and rolled back to his feet.

Kuchar regrouped and using the same club, attempted another shot out of the bunker. The ball caught the lip again, only this time it didn’t roll back down.

Instead, the ball lodged in the lip of the bunker.

Kuchar was forced to take a drop and a one-stoke penalty. He chipped his fifth shot into the fairway and went on to make a triple-bogey. He opened the round at 1-under, with an outside shot of playing his way into contention. Those hopes were dashed quickly as after his bunker escapades Kuchar is now 11 strokes off the lead.
