The Barclays 2013 leaderboard: Weather delay hits with Ryan Palmer early leader

Ryan Palmer is the early leader at The Barclays, but play was delayed just 83 minutes into the first round due to inclement weather.

Update: Play is set to resume at 11 a.m. ET.

The Barclays got underway early Thursday morning at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, N.J., but things didn’t exactly get off to a good start. Ryan Palmer is the early leader at 2-under through three holes, but that will likely change when play resumes following a weather delay.

The threat of lightning amid incoming thunderstorms caused the course to be cleared just 83 minutes after Thursday morning’s first golfer teed off. According to the Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard, this is the 20th time this season that weather has delayed a tournament.

Tiger Woods was able to tee off before the inclement weather hit, parring his first hole before the delay was instated just 17 minutes after he took the course. He’s attempting to keep his lead in the FedEx Cup standings with the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs now underway.

The furthest any golfer got was through five holes, but numerous men -- including Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson -- have yet to tee off after being delayed by the storm.

Here is a snap shot of the top of the leaderboard:

Pos. Player Round 1 Hole

T2 Daniel Summerhays -1 5*
T2 Nick Watney -1 5
T2 Kyle Stanley -1 5

T2 Robert Garrigus -1 4*
T2 Gary Woodland -1 4
T2 David Hearn -1 3*
T2 Chris Stroud -1 3
T2 Kevin Streelman -1 2*
