NORTON, Mass. -- Tiger Woods has ended the suspense about whether he will or won’t play in this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.

The world No. 1, who leads the league in FedExCup playoff points, has been slated to tee off in the first two rounds of the second of four FEC events with Adam Scott, second in the standings, and Phil Mickelson, who enters the week third on the playoff roster. Woods made it official Wednesday, when he added the PGA Tour stop at TPC Boston to his 2013 schedule.
Woods, whose bad back flared up during Sunday’s final round of The Barclays, had hinted that returning to Norton, Mass., following his T2 finish to Scott, was not a foregone conclusion.
“That’s all hypothetical right now,” Woods, who finished a shot behind Scott at Liberty National, told reporters Sunday night about his ability to play this week. “I just got off and I’m not feeling my best right now.”
His withdrawal from his friend Notah Begay’s annual charity golf tournament taking place in upstate New York on Wednesday, fueled speculation that the 14-time major champion’s sore back might preclude his start in the tournament he won in 2006, a year before the playoffs began.
A spokesperson for the Tiger Woods Foundation, which has assumed operational responsibilities for the Boston contest, told SBNation on Monday that Woods expected to play. With Tiger slipping the DBC into his online calendar, however, organizers may now heave sighs of relief that their their man will make it to the 10th tee at 8:40 a.m. ET on Friday (the Labor Day weekend event ends on Monday).
Woods is slated to play in Thursday’s pro-am and meet the press following his trip around the TPC Boston track.
