Adam Scott is still comfortably out in front at Oak Hill, holding on to a two-shot lead over Jim Furyk, who has yet to tee off. Scott came out firing on Friday, adding two quick birdies to extend his margin in sole possession of first. He’s been at 8-under on multiple occasions during the second round, but a bogey on No. 7 (his 16th hole) dropped him back to 7-under. He’s currently even on his inward nine, but no one’s come close to matching him.
2013 PGA Championship leaderboard: Adam Scott maintains lead, Justin Rose and Webb Simpson move up
The steady 2013 Masters champ has not given the rest of the field much of a window with first round co-leader Jim Furyk still to tee off.

Scott is often commended for having the best swing in the game, and he’s certainly one of the best with the driver in his hand. But the putter has always been an issue and prevented him from greater success. The anchoring has helped, as we saw at Augusta, and that club has been rolling well through the first two days at Oak Hill. He missed two shorter par putts at No. 17 and No. 7, but aside from that, the Aussie has repeatedly canned birdie chances and saved pars with the putter.
A set of players out on the course with Scott sit three shots back of the leader, including Justin Rose and Webb Simpson. It looked like Rose might miss the weekend at the start of his second round, as he could not find his form with the putter or his irons. He started bogey-bogey and promptly fell out of the red. Now, the U.S. Open winner has charged up the board to get to 4-under, draining four birdies in a five-hole stretch on his inward nine.
The third member of the 2013 majors group is Phil Mickelson, who hasn’t kept pace with Scott or Rose. Mickelson needs to be careful on his final two holes because he is hovering around the cut line of 3-over. A bogey on No. 7 dropped another shot for Phil, who is now at 2-over. Mickelson said he had to go low, get aggressive, and post a number in the low 60s on Friday in order to have a chance this week. Sitting nine shots back of playing partner Scott, it appears Phil may play out the weekend in non-contention.
