Henrik Stenson’s temper flares (Part Deux): A driver and locker destroyed

Henrik Stenson, Tiger Woods’ playing partner in the first two rounds of this week’s Tour Championship, will tee it up in the FedExCup playoff finale with a new driver, thanks to the bang-up job he did on his old one on Monday. It turns out, the reigning Deutsche Bank champion took out his irritation over a poor final round of the BMW Championship not only on his big stick but by remodeling the locker room at Conway Farms Golf Club.

Golf.com photos illustrated the strength of the 37-year-old Stenson, who apparently tore the door off a wooden locker and rearranged a shelf inside the see-through clothes cabinet.

Stenson, who’s becoming more notorious for his angry antics than his three PGA Tour wins, went all “Most Dangerous Band in the World” due to pent-up “frustration that manifested itself,” the golfer’s agent R.J. Nemer said in a e-mail to Golf.com.

Or perhaps he was auditioning for a part in the sequel to the commercial for, coincidentally, the sponsor of the Tour’s season-long FedExCup race, in which the heavy-metal music men finally go all Henrik Stenson for their crabby manager.

To recap, Stenson entered the BMW No. 1 in playoff points but his hot-headedness got the better of him in Monday’s weather-delayed final round, when he beheaded his TaylorMade R1 driver after mishitting his tee shot on the 72nd hole.

Stenson will pay for damages to the locker, according to Golf.com. He’ll also try out a new TaylorMade SLDR in the fourth and final FedExCup match, which starts for him and Woods at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

“Yeah, absolutely. That was the main focus -- get something with a little bit less spin,” Stenson deadpanned, during his Wednesday press conference, about why he killed off his big club in Chicago. “Let’s finish the old one off right here and now in front of everybody on 18. Perfect.”
