The world’s No. 1 player and current leader in the FedExCup standings is having a much better day at the 2013 TOUR Championship on Friday, but Tiger Woods still has a lot of work to do if he hopes to overcome his ugly Round 1 at East Lake.
2013 TOUR Championship leaderboard: Tiger Woods looking better on Day 2
Tiger had three birdies on his front nine but still sits well off the lead after a dismal opening round.

A day after posting a 3-over, 73, Woods currently sits at even through nine holes, having posted 3-under through his front nine on Friday. He tapped in birdies on Nos. 3, 8 and 9 and had pars on the remaining six holes.
Woods had a rough opening day, with three bogeys and not a single birdie for just the seventh time in over 1,000 career rounds.
Meanwhile, the man sitting behind Woods in the FEC standings, Henrik Stenson, remains atop the TOUR Championship leaderboard after posting a 6-under, 64 in his opening round. He, like the majority of the tournament’s leaders, has yet to tee off on Friday. He’s scheduled to do so at 2 p.m. ET.
With most of the leaders beginning later in the day, movement at the top of the board has been minimal. The exception is Gary Woodland, who has shot up 12 spots and currently sits in a nine-way tie for sixth place at 2-under. After a wild Round 1 that saw him roll in five birdies while dumping three bogeys and a double-bogey to finish even, the American began Friday with birdies his first two holes.
Phil Mickelson is even through six holes on Friday and sits seven strokes off the lead at 1-over.
