PGA Tour announces 2013-2014 schedule

For the first time, the PGA Tour has set a schedule which wraps around two-calendar years and will award full FedExCup points for this upcoming Fall Series. It’s the biggest change in the shake-up to do away with Q-school.

The PGA Tour’s 2013-2014 season marks a move to its first-ever wrap-around schedule that spans two calendar years.

The never-ending men’s golf season picks up after the 2013 Presidents Cup and kicks off with the Frys.com Open from October 10-October 13 at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif. The tour stages its grand finale with the Tour Championship, the final leg of its four-event FedExCup playoff series, from September 11-September 14.

Three U.S. and three global contests start the new campaign, which takes a short break through December before heading to Hawaii and its traditional January stops ahead of the West Coast swing. The tour previously announced that players in the season’s first six events earn full FedExCup points, with the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (October 24-27), and the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China (October 31-November 3), becoming official tour events for the first time.

The other early competitions to offer FEC points are:

  • Shriners Hospital for Children Open -- TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nev., October 17-20
  • The McGladrey Classic -- Sea Island Resort, St. Simons Island, Ga., November 7-10
  • OHL Classic -- El Camaleon GC at Mayakoba Resort,Playa del Carmen, Mexico, November 14-17

The tour announced last week that the Sanderson Farms Championship will not be on the 2013-2014 schedule, moving from July to the start of the 2014-2015 season, opposite the WGC-HSBC. In addition, the Tampa Bay tilt, which is part of the Florida Swing, has a new sponsor and is included on the 2013-2014 schedule as the Valspar Championship (March 13-16).
