John Daly’s in contention in Qatar but his Loudmouth threads steal the show

Even the European Tour loves John Daly’s Loudmouth pants.

John Daly has been getting off to some impressive starts this year, with his opening-round 5-under 67 in Qatar on Wednesday the most recent. But as is often the case when he makes the scene, there’s more to Big John than his game, and -- true to form in Europe as it is back home -- Daly’s Loudmouth trousers du jour made quite the fashion statement in the Middle East.

“For all those who have been on tenterhooks all afternoon wondering what outfit John Daly had on, then wait no more,” read a Euro Tour blog post on Wednesday. “As you can see, our musings of nuclear colour schemes earlier in the round were indeed true.”

Daly’s couture, the talk of the Sony Open, made it to the cover of a recent Golf Monthly Magazine, which profiled the “crazy world of golf’s most colorful character.”

Coming off elbow surgery, Daly’s in the midst of a busy competitive run. He finished T32 at the Sony, drilled that hole-in-one that wasn’t during the Humana pro-am but missed the cut in the actual event, and will enter Thursday’s second round at the Qatar Masters in a six-way tie for eighth, just three shots back of early leader George Coetzee.

Daly next stop will be Dubai where he’ll tee it up with the likes of Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, and Rory McIlory, and then it’s back to the states for a start at Pebble.
